A Note from the Conference Chairs
Welcome to CCSCNE-2001 and to Middlebury College!

This program presents the collaborative work of several people.  We are fortunate to have worked with a great group of committee members.  Results of their work are evident in an excellent program with high quality presentations and a diverse set of sessions and activities.  For the first time this year, a programming contest will be held in conjunction with the onference.  Between the contest and the student posters, we should see a huge increase in participation of undergraduate students.

Ultimately, however, it is the participation of those who attend that makes the conference what it is.  Thanks to you, CCSCNE has become a well-established conference on computer science education in the Northeast, which continues to grow from year to year as several attendees return to the conference with new colleagues--and in some cases entire departments.

The conference is being held at Middlebury College's new Bicentennial Hall which celebrated its grand opening only a few months ago in October of 2000. For several years, this hall was the single largest construction project in the state of Vermont, and it was the largest building in the country to use entirely certified wood. The large west-facing window provides wonderful views of Vermont's pastoral landscape with the Adriondack Mountains of New York in the background. It is a wonderful site for the continuation of what has proved to be a great conference.

We hope you enjoy the conference and find it rewarding and fun.  We look forward to seeing you.
